For the past three July’s, we have invited and welcomed guest skaters and coaches to experience our NEXXICE family for a weekend. This season we had an incredible turn out at our camp with over 100 participants from across Europe, the United States and Canada. Our training spanned from edges and turns to field moves, synchro elements, figures (YES, figures!), theatre, ISU rules, pilates/fitness, and sport psychology.

Theatre with Anne Schelter
We were so fortunate to have the creator of “Annie’s Edges”, Anne Schelter, share her knowledge of the glide with everyone who attended. Anne has an amazing ability to teach a lightness when it comes to skating; floating across the ice with complete ease. The weekend had been an incredible opportunity for our participants to take part and learn from Anne’s wisdom first hand.
From the ISU, we had guest speaker Philippe Maitrot (member of the ISU Synchronized Skating Technical Committee), who discussed the rule changes for the upcoming season and answered questions on and off the ice.
Edge work
Several coaches across the NEXXICE organization assisted in our camp, including Trish Purdue Mills (NEXXICE Junior coach), Jennifer Beauchamp (former NEXXICE Captain & NEXXICE Novice/Intermediate coach) and Danyel Wright-Dykstra (former NEXXICE Senior captain & NEXXICE Novice coach). We would like to thank all of our coaches, managers, skaters, parent volunteers and clinicians who helped make this another fantastic weekend of learning and fun! We loved reconnecting with old friends as well as meeting many ones.
We hope that all of the participants had an unforgettable experience at camp this year and wish everyone the best of luck with their teams for the 2014/2015 season. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year, but hopefully many familiar faces will make the trip back to the Burlington/Hamilton area in April for the 2015 World Synchronized Skating Championships!
